Drizzly Monday

There was a fine mist most of the day today, which meant keeping busy indoors. Everything got wet, but it didn't do much in the way of measurable rainfall. The cats ventured out a few times, and were damp and cold when they came back inside. They quickly gathered by the fireplace to soak up some heat. Jim and I worked together on carving up the turkey. Jim carved and put slices on a plate while I made up a large turkey, gravy, and meat-dressing pie. That makes a delicious meal. After most of the meat was off the bones, the remainder went into a soup pot and simmered for a couple of hours. The house smelled wonderful again. I've decided to make turkey more often than I usually do - a couple of times a year - because we enjoy it so much, nothing gets wasted, and it's so economical. Working together in the kitchen was fun, and it made a big job easy to handle.
After my radiation appointment this morning, I had more than an hour to kill before I was to meet Jim at the Social Security office, so I spent some time at the library, pouring through their watercolor books. I had made an appointment with Social Security to be signed up to begin receiving benefits, since I will turn 62 in April. If I wait until I'm eligible to receive full benefits, I'll have to wait until I turn 66. Anyway, I'm now in the system, and will receive my first check in June for the month of May. Getting older does have some perks!
The rest of the day we spent on the computer and reading, and I finally tackled the laundry, which has been haunting me like a bad dream. All in all a pretty good day! And, for the first time in months - we saw 7 deer at the feeder just before it got dark. Seven! We watched them for several minutes before they left and went back through the woods.
I'm sitting in my recliner chair here trying to type with 2 big cats in front of me, Ball and Pong. I just had to get Ball off my chest. I'm so sore from radiation, and his weight and bones hurt the skin, to say nothing of the claws. Poor kitties, they have no way of knowing that they can't lie on my "shelf" like they used to. At least Pong is more on my stomach, so that's ok.
